Irina Samsonova: “Work has become so much more fun!”
Success
After completing the IDEA course in Computer Fundamentals, Irina Samsonova, a young librarian of Sakhalin regional library, got not only a raise but an offer of a better position with the same library.
Overview
Irina Samsonova got a job at Sakhalin regional library without any special training, following a friend’s advice, and found her work there rather tedious. The only part of it she enjoyed was connected with computers, but Irina’s e-skills left much to be desired. When she heard about an impending IDEA course in Computer Fundamentals for young users, she decided to sign up and never regretted her decision. The training was interesting, the new skills immensely helpful. The alumna immediately put them to practice in her work, and it didn’t go unnoticed by her supervisors. She was asked to take part in the Literary Expedition Project on Anton Chekhov which involved doing Chekhov-related research in museums and libraries of Sakhalin. The alumna took up the responsibilities of the project’s photo correspondent and was pleasantly surprised to see how well her digital pictures turned out, especially for a beginner. She was then asked to update and maintain the news section of the library’s website.
“It’s so much fun exchanging e-mail messages with friends and developing electronic materials for the website,” says the alumna. “My pictures have been posted on the library’s website, since I traveled all around the island and then made a photo report about the trip. I love it that I can capture and share the beauty of our island with others.” Now the alumna is studying digital technologies and doesn’t intend to stop at what’s been achieved.
