Moving up the Career Ladder with IDEA
Success
Dinara Khusainova from Astrakhan put the computer skills acquired at the IDEA Center to practical use in her work with a local construction company and thus was able to increase her income.
Overview
Because of the current recession Dinara Khusainova was out of work for a while but then found a job with a local construction company, which she was determined to keep. With this in mind she decided to upgrade her ICT competence and signed up for the Microsoft Unlimited Potential course in Computer Fundamentals at the IDEA Center of Astrakhan Retraining Institute. The alumna quickly mastered e-mail and Internet skills and immediately found a way to put them to practical use in her work. Daily her company gets many electronic subscriptions and e-mail messages which need to be carefully analyzed for profitable deals and offers, since only about 15% of them offer anything of value. “Most of these messages were more or less ignored, and no one responded to them, even to be polite” recalls the alumna. She convinced the company’s director to let her work on the development of the corporate website. The director agreed on the condition that Dinara would work on the project from home, in her free time, and promised to pay her 20% of all additional income the website brings.
“The number of the website’s users is gradually growing – and so is my bonus,” says Dinara. “Now the website brings me about $150-200 extra a month, which may not seem like much, but I hope to see it grow. This type of work calls for good computer skills, and I am grateful for the training I received at the IDEA Center. Everything else depends on one’s initiative, abilities and a desire to succeed.”
