Evgeny Beketov: “New skills help me stay afloat”
Success
After taking the IDEA course in Computer Fundamentals at the IDEA Center of the Far East academic library in Khabarovsk, Evgeny Beketov not only acquired helpful skills that would stand him well in life but also found ways to bring in some extra income before finding permanent employment.
Overview
Evgeny Beketov, 27, lost his job four months previously, when the company where he worked went bankrupt. He immediately got registered with the local employment agency, which offered him several retraining opportunities. He had already heard from his wife about computer literacy courses available at the Far East academic library and now decided to sign up. His previous employment as a loading workman had no connection with ICT, but Evgeny knew that computer skills would increase his employability and give him better chances to find a permanent job.
After completing the IDEA course in Computer Fundamentals, Evgeny began to work from home taking small typing jobs and other computer-related tasks. At this point he can easily use OS Windows and MS Word, and his typing speed is quite high. This gives him a chance to make ends meet until he secures permanent and well-paid employment.
“The company I am working for now,” shares the alumnus, “can’t afford to hire me full time, so they pay me on a piecework basis. This leaves me with quite a bit of free time, which I spend on further training and self-development. I definitely plan to keep working on my computer skills and find additional sources of income.” Evgeny is eager to take other courses and learn more applications.
