Competent and Useful, Whatever the Age!
Success
In October 2009, Tatyana Volodina, a retiree from Ulan Ude, completed courses in Computer Fundamentals and Word Processing Fundamentals at the IDEA Center of National Library of the Buryat Republic. Even though it’s only been a few short weeks since the completion of the training, the alumna has already begun to notice positive changes in her life.
Overview
Tatyana Volodina is a member of “Lake Baikal Rhythms,” a local non-profit organization, and her work requires good computer skills, since the Center for Practical Rhythmology is located in a different city and all training is conducted online. Until recently Tatyana’s MS Word and Internet skills were sadly inadequate, but the IDEA training turned things around.
“IDEA training was my first step in exploring information technologies,” says the alumna, “and I found it immensely useful. I am no longer afraid of modern technologies and clearly see their potential and opportunities they open up for us. After completing the training I joined the Internet project “Business from Home” and now I am one of its most active promoters. I also got interested in digital medicine after meeting a doctor from one of the local medical centers, and soon will begin working as the administrator of Mimics, a new digital medicine website.”
Before her retirement Tatyana Volodina worked as a commodity expert but now she wants to move in a different direction and has great plans for the future. “I have learned about freelance opportunities and want to explore this area further, helping people to remain competent and useful, whatever their age,” says the alumna.
