Larisa Shorits: “Thanks to IDEA I can help my non-profit organization”
Success
As many other senior citizens, Larisa Shorits from Tomsk is full of energy and desire to play an active role in her local community. During the IDEA training she learned to use the Internet and key MS Office applications and immediately applied her new knowledge and skills in her work with “Treasure,” a regional non-profit organization.
Overview
Confident that computer technologies can make a great difference in her work and personal life, Larisa Shorits signed up for the Microsoft Unlimited Potential course in Computer Fundamentals at the IDEA Center in A.S. Pushkin regional library in Tomsk. After completing the course the alumna still didn’t feel sufficiently competent, but, very positive and optimistic about her future success, decided to go on and master the MS Office package and learn to use the Internet, hoping to put her digital competence to practical use in her work with “Treasure,” a regional non-profit organization.
Learning to use the Internet proved a major boost for the alumna’s self confidence. “Various Internet resources are daily updated with current and useful information,” says Larisa Shorits, “ and it helps one to remain aware of the latest developments and not fall behind the times, which is very important for maintaining proper self-respect and a proactive attitude to life.”
Thanks to her new MS Word skills, Larisa Shorits easily edits and formats text documents, develops tables, lists, charts and graphs. In the end of her IDEA course she surprised both her fellow trainees and instructors by producing an independently developed manual which she now uses in her work. Larisa Shorits’ Internet and MS Word skills greatly enhance the effectiveness of her public work and thus bring tangible benefits to her local community.
