Keeping Abreast of the Times!
The volunteer IDEA Center of Kalmyk State University entered a long-term partnership in ICT training with the Department of Labor and Social Security of the city of Elista. In April 2008, the IDEA Center held a free course in Computer Fundamentals and Word Processing Fundamentals for WWII veterans from the local Zabota Center.
The first computer course for WWII veterans included two weeks of daily training sessions. The war veterans learned many new and interesting things, mastered work processing skills and made their first steps in navigating the Internet. On May 8, 2008, on the eve of Victory Day, the alumni received their Microsoft Unlimited Potential certificates at a special ceremony attended by Herman Borlikov, the President of Kalmyk State University, and Vladimir Imeyev, the Provost and V.P. of research, ICT and public relations. The event was broadcast by the local TV company, featuring interviews of Svetlana Roman, the director of Zabota Center, and the alumni themselves who expressed many thanks to the IDEA Center team.
