The State Institution of Culture of Vladimir Region – Vladimir Regional Universal Scientific Library named by M. Gorky is informative, cultural and educational institute disposes organized stocks of different documents and lends them to the juridical and physical persons.
This library is the central library of Vladimir region. It is the storehouse of printed materials and other information resources. The library is the scientific and research organization in library and book sciences, methodological and cultural center of regional importance.
The mission of the library is to gather and keep the complete document collection about Vladimir region and documents that was published on the territory of the region and to provide open access to public resources – national and worldwide – for users.
The meaning of the library – historical, cultural, and esthetical – is determined by its stocks. The library has the largest stock of the region – more than 2 millions documents on different information carriers.
Vladimir RSL aspires to make library information resources opened for everybody and to keep unique library stocks for future generations. The library provides various information services for the regional population. It takes part in national and international projects that are directed to the extending of the information access and automation of library technologies. The library actively inculcates new information technologies in its work.
In January 2005 at Vladimir scientific library the Open Internet Access Center was solemnly opened. During the year of its work there were more then 4000 people visited the Center. There were 72 trainings with various groups of users at this Center.
From the beginning of the 2006 the library starts the work on the project “The Social Adaptation of Disabled People”. This project is realized together with the city organization of disabled people. This project includes lectures on actual lawful problems, various courses on basic computers skills that could help in searching jobs, the help in establishing connections with other organizations of disabled people around Vladimir Region via Internet. On the base of the Open Internet Access Center training courses on PC basic skills for disabled people are carrying on.
