Chita State University is one of the largest universities in Transbaikalia and, in many ways, a pacemaker for higher education institutions in the region. Chita State University contains eight institutes including the Mining Institute of Mining, the Institute of Energy, the Institute of Construction and Environmental Science, Law School, the Institute of Social and Political Systems, the Institute of Economics and Management, the Institute of Technological and Transportation Systems, and the Retraining Institute. Its fifty-four chairs offer higher education degree courses in fifty-two different majors. The university turns out highly qualified professionals for various industries and fields including mechanical engineering, mining, wood processing, energy, construction, transportation, management and public leadership, and law enforcement. The main mission of Chita State University is to train specialists able to lead the region into the 21 century, ensuring effective and comprehensive development of its economic, technological, academic and social potential.
Research programs at the university are integrated into its academic curricula and seen as an indispensable part of training modern professionals. As the result of their research activities, students and faculty of the university have received more than 300 patents. The university’s graduate school offers master’s degree programs in seven fields and twenty-one other graduate study programs including four in doctoral studies.
Chita State University is the region’s leading university in implementing and developing IT technologies in education, research and professional work. In December 2002, Chita State University launched its Internet Access and Training Center complete with ten computer stations, an Internet server, a scanner, two printers, a digital camera, a multi-media projector, and a stereo system. In 2006 the Center expanded its services for the public and joined the network of IDEA Centers.
The Center provides users with a wide range of information services including filling out information queries, consultations in using Internet search engines, full-text and reference databases and catalogs, seminars and training courses, and free computer and Internet access.
