In April 2002, Perm’s A. M. Gorky Public Library launched an Internet Center. The Center provides the library’s registered patrons with free access to Internet resources. It also offers regular seminars, training courses and workshops in using computer and IT technologies in various educational and professional fields. These seminars and workshops are attended by many local residents including librarians, culture workers, business owners, public leaders, educators, high school and college students, etc.
In 2006, the Internet Center joined the Information Dissemination and Equal Access (IDEA) Project administered by Project Harmony, Inc., and funded by Microsoft Unlimited Potential - Community Technology Skills Program. In 2006–2007 the IDEA Center held educational courses for workers of the local hospice, representatives of “Sportsland” (a club for the disabled), “Dove” (league of disabled youth), “Movement” (Perm’s public association for the disabled), several local branches of the all-Russia disabled society, the local deaf society, Perm’s employment center, and many other organizations. All IDEA alumni have received Microsoft Unlimited Potential certificates of completion.
